Engineer for a Day
The goal of Engineer For a Day is to inspire elementary and middle school students to become interested and excited about STEM fields. This year on February 27th, 2016 Engineer for a Day was hosted at the Austin E Knowlton School of Architecture and Hitchcock Hall at The Ohio State University-College of Engineering. With the help of 60 volunteers from Ohio State University’s National Society of Black Engineers, collegiate and professional, and Tech Corps students, Engineer for a Day was able to let 150 young students experience the thought process and tasks of an actual Engineer through fun hands on activities. Some of the activities provided this year were Urban Congestion in Civil Engineering, the Egg Drop Competition in Aerospace Engineering, the science behind Ice Cream as Chemical Engineering, and many more. At the end of the day, students left with a better understanding of the Engineering Design Process.
